Forget to register in California? Don’t worry, you can still vote in the March primary

It’s not too late to vote in California’s primary election even if you didn’t register or forgot to update your address.

You can register and vote on the same day in California, thanks to new legislation to expand voter rights.

That means you still have a chance to vote on local candidates, ballot measures and presidential candidates on March 3, 2020.

How to vote

You can register and cast your ballot at your polling place or at your county elections office on Election Day, March 3.

If you want to avoid the lines, you can register and vote at the county elections office in the days leading up to Election Day.

All ballots from eligible citizens will be counted after an elections official verifies the voter’s registration and confirms the voter hasn’t voted elsewhere in the election, according to election officials.

Other voting tips

If you requested a vote-by-mail ballot and haven’t received it, contact your local elections office for a replacement.

If you are voting by mail, do not forget to sign the envelope.

If you made a mistake on your ballot, you can ask an elections official at a polling place for a new ballot or exchange your vote-by-mail ballot at an elections office or polling place.
