The mayor of Grover Beach has announced her campaign for re-election in 2026.

Mayor Kassi Dee, who was elected in 2024 with 43.5% of the vote following a three-way race against former Mayor Debbie Peterson and current Councilmember Robert Robert, will seek re-election in the 2026 election, Dee’s campaign said in a news release.

Prior to her election, Dee, a lifelong Grover Beach resident, was known primarily as the proprietor of Nan’s Books & Crystals on West Grand Avenue, a longtime local business founded by Dee’s grandmother Nan Fowler.

Dee continues to run Nan’s Books & Crystals while also serving as the youngest elected mayor in Grover Beach’s history.

“Kassi has spent the past year as mayor engaging and fostering connections within the community,” Dee’s campaign announcement said. “She has dedicated herself to making decisions that pave the way for a sustainable, thriving future for all of Grover Beach.”

According to the release, Dee is running on three priorities for her next term:

  • The potential of Grover Beach: To foster our shared vision for economic development, revitalization of our main thoroughfare to enhance community unity, and ensure Grover remains a leader in housing.
  • Roads & strategic maintenance: To keep making decisions that enhance our residential streets while strategically addressing necessary maintenance. By doing this, we can complete upcoming work with minimal disruptions.
  • Public safety: Continue to advocate for first responders (police, fire, emergency services) thorough training, implementation of development programs, and approval of new ordinances designed to decrease crime and address fire hazards.

The announcement touted Dee’s support for the new Social Host Ordinance for Illegal Fireworks use, which gave the Police Department better tools to cite activity, and for pushing for one-time grants for businesses impacted by extended construction along Grand Avenue during the Grand Avenue Streetscape Project.

“Between the rehabilitation of Ramona Garden Park and continuing the roadwork of our residential streets supported by Measure K-14, we are seeing Grover Beach become something our community has always looked for,” Dee said in the release. “All my life, some version of ‘what does Grover Beach want to be when we grow up’ has been asked — well, this is what it looks like! Vibrant, well-planned and community-oriented.”
