A boy riding on an ATV was thrown from the vehicle when the driver crashed into a passing car, Ohio police said.

The driver, an adult man, was coming out of an alley when he struck the passenger side of a car, Columbus police said in a Nov. 5 news release.

The man and the boy, whose ages were not released by police, were thrown from the ATV.

The drivers of both vehicles and the boy were rushed to the hospital with injuries. Both people on the ATV were in critical condition when they were transported, police said, and the other driver was in stable condition.

Hours after the crash, around 11:30 p.m., the boy died of his injuries, according to police.

Police said the investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.
