A car crashed through the window of the tea shop owned by the Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan in Illinois as his mother-in-law had lunch with his son, family said on social media.

Chloe Mendel Corgan, the frontman’s wife, said her son was able to jump out of the way, but the accident injured her mother, according to an Oct. 30 post on Instagram. She was taken to the hospital, according to Highland Park officials.

The Highland Park tea shop Madame Zuzu’s, owned by the Corgans, was closed for the day as crews cleaned up the accident, Mandel Corgan said.

City officials said the driver was also taken to the hospital. Initial investigations indicated the accident was not intentional, but Highland Park officials said they are continuing to investigate.

Madame Zuzu’s reopened on Oct. 31, Mendel Corgan said.

“My mom is home and recovering, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support from our team, everyone who helped prepare our space, and all who reached out with kind words,” Mendel Corgan said.

Highland Park is about a 30-mile drive northwest from Chicago.
