A woman severed both of her legs trying to jump onto a moving train, Texas police said.

Officers responded at about 8:30 p.m. July 2 to reports of an auto-pedestrian incident involving a train, according to a July 3 news release from the Harlingen Police Department.

Authorities said they arrived to find several people helping a woman who had been severely injured.

The victim, in her early 20s, tried to jump onto a moving train, identified as a cargo train by KRGV, when she fell, according to police.

Both of her legs were severed, police said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for surgery and is in stable condition, authorities said.

According to the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation, the Union Pacific Railroad runs through the city.

Harlingen is about a 250-mile drive south from San Antonio, close to the border with Mexico.
