A woman died after jumping out of her boyfriend’s vehicle during an argument, Illinois police said.

Officers responded to a call around 1 a.m. June 1 for an agency assist and found a 21-year-old woman lying in the road near a curb “bleeding from her head,” according to a news release from the East Chicago Police Department.

Witnesses were performing CPR on the woman, then officers took over until medics arrived, police said.

The victim’s boyfriend, a 25-year-old from East Chicago, told police they got into a “verbal argument about him attending another game with his friends.”

During the fight, the woman opened the passenger door and “stepped out,” police said.

The man immediately stopped the car, and other drivers in the area stopped to perform CPR and call 911, according to police.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where she died from her injuries, according to police. Her identity has not been released.

Police said the woman’s death is being investigated.
