Authorities are investigating after a 4-month-old was found dead in a couple’s hotel room in Texas.

Deputies responded to a call about the dead baby at a Days Inn hotel in west Houston on Sunday, May 26, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a news release.

The cause of the infant’s death is not clear but an investigation is underway.

Hotel staff made the call to 911 after the child was discovered inside one of the rooms, the sheriff’s office told KTRK.

There was no crib in the room and investigators believe the girl had been put in a drawer instead, they told the outlet. There were no obvious signs of physical abuse but deputies said the circumstances of her death are “suspicious.”

McClatchy News has reached out to officials for more information.
