Vegetation fire burns 200 acres near Highway 58 in SLO County
Firefighters stopped the forward progress of a vegetation fire that burned about 200 acres in the California Valley area Saturday afternoon, according to incident command updates posted by Watch Duty and Cal Fire.
The Solar Fire was reported south of Highway 58 near Boulder Creek Road and was initially estimated at about 20 acres before growing significantly within roughly an hour.
As of shortly before 2 p.m., the fire was 40% contained, according to incident command updates posted by Watch Duty.
Incident command initially described the fire as having a moderate rate of spread.
Smoke from the fire was visible on area cameras Saturday afternoon.
Online dispatch information showed multiple SLO County Fire resources responding, including engines, water tenders and tanker air support.
One additional Type 1 air tanker was requested shortly after 1 p.m., according to Watch Duty updates from Cole Euken, manager of real-time operations.
Additional information about containment, evacuations, injuries or possible threats to structures was not immediately available.
