A motorcycle crash near Shell Beach on Highway 101 had southbound traffic at a stop early Friday evening as heavy fog blanketed the area.

The California Highway Patrol traffic incident information page initially reported a solo motorcycle crash on the highway near the Shell Beach off-ramp at around 4 p.m. But minutes later, a reporting party said the crash may have been caused by another vehicle.

By 4:06 p.m., the CHP page said the rider and motorcycle were located in the slow lane, and that an ambulance was en route to the scene. It was unclear the extent of any injuries in the crash.

The incident appear to be cleared as of 5:30 p.m.

Traffic continued to be backed up to the southbound San Luis Bay Drive off-ramp as of about 5:30 p.m., according to Caltrans Quickmap.
