Thousands of admitted students, their families and other visitors will flock to San Luis Obispo this weekend for Cal Poly’s 33rd annual Open House.

Open House is a longstanding tradition that brings admitted students, families, alumni and other Cal Poly supporters and community members to SLO get a feel for the university and downtown atmosphere.

This year’s event will be held from Thursday through Saturday, meaning locals should expect an increase in traffic and pedestrian activity this weekend.

According to a Cal Poly news release, the event will kick off on Thursday with a “Campus Preview Night” at the SLO Farmers Market, where student clubs and organizations will occupy a block of Chorro Street to get the word out about various campus resources and programs.

On Friday, admitted students will have the chance to experience one-off college classes, go to a campus resource fair and do other activities to get a feel for student life, the release said.

A special Spanish track will be offered on Friday for Spanish-speaking students and families, the event website said.

Admitted students wanting to attend Friday’s festivities on campus must RSVP, the website said.

Festivities will conclude on Saturday with the Poly Royal parade, which this year, will celebrate 125 years of Cal Poly, the release said. The celebration will showcase more than 300 student organizations and feature special performances.

The beloved Poly Royal Rodeo will also be happening throughout the weekend at Spanos Stadium, concluding on Saturday.
