Cal Poly faculty and staff now have a new housing option.

Cal Poly Partners, an auxiliary nonprofit, recently acquired 120 units in the San Luis Ranch development off Madonna Road, the university announced Wednesday in a news release.

The units are located in the Harvest Lofts neighborhood near Laguna Lake. They range from 407-square-foot studios to 516-square-foot one-bedroom, one-bathroom units.

They’ll be made available for rent to new and current Cal Poly faculty and staff as a “hassle-free housing solution,” the release said.

“For years the cost and availability of housing has been a huge challenge for our faculty and staff, and this is the next phase in a planned approach aimed at addressing that,” Cal Poly Partners CEO Cody VanDorn said in the release.

Staff and faculty can choose between four floor plans:

  • 407-square-foot studio
  • 436-square-foot one-bedroom
  • 403- to 407-square-foot one-bedroom
  • 514- to 516-square-foot one-bedroom

All four floor plans include a bathroom and a deck.

In addition to the 120-unit Harvest Lofts acquisition, Cal Poly Partners’ offers 69 staff and faculty housing units in the Bella Montaña community near the Highland Drive campus entrance.

The nonprofit also broke ground on a faculty and staff housing neighborhood in July. The Vista Meadows project near the Grand Avenue campus entrance will include 33 single-family homes.

“This is a great opportunity to support our faculty and staff as well as the community that they live in,” VanDorn said in the release. “Whether they are transitioning into a new role on campus or have been at Cal Poly and in the community for years, Harvest Lofts will be a supportive and conducive environment for their professional and personal growth.”

Cal Poly has also launched a new mortgage assistance program in partnership with SESLOC credit union to make it easier for faculty and staff to buy homes in the Cal Poly Partners communities. That program removes down payment barriers and the private mortgage insurance (PMI) requirement, the news release said.
