SLO County schools earn statewide awards for social emotional learning. Which ones?
Four schools in San Luis Obispo County were recently recognized for excellence in their social emotional learning practices.
Bishop’s Peak Elementary School, Sinsheimer Elementary School, Lillian Larsen Elementary School and Nipomo High School each earned a Thriving School Award from the Social Emotional Learning Alliance for California.
The organization aims to support schools, teachers and students through social emotional learning, its website said.
Social emotional learning helps students learn to regulate their emotions, cooperate with others and thrive academically by learning positive mental health practices.
According to the awards page, Bishop’s Peak, Sinsheimer and Nipomo High each received a gold award, while Lillian Larsen received a silver.
The Thriving School Award was created in partnership with the Los Angeles County Office of Education to “increase the implementation and recognition of SEL in K-12 schools, communities, and with policymakers,” the awards website said.
The SLO County Office of Education celebrated the award-winning schools on social media.
“Big congratulations to Lillian Larsen Elementary, Nipomo High School, Sinsheimer Elementary, and Bishop’s Peak Elementary for receiving the SEL4CA Thriving School Award!” the county office wrote on Facebook. “These schools were recognized statewide for their outstanding implementation of Schoolwide Practices that support student social and emotional wellness.”
