I applied to Cal Poly SLO. When will I find out if I got in?
Students awaiting to hear back from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo about whether they were accepted into the university for fall 2022 don’t have to wait too much longer.
The university says it will send out notices by April 1.
Those notices will specify whether a student was accepted to enroll, has been placed on the waitlist or was denied admission.
Some may have already heard back already, according to Terrance Harris, Cal Poly’s vice president of strategic enrollment management.
“We’ve just begun selection a week or so ago,” Harris said. “We started with freshmen, then to transfers and then we’ll cycle back through.”
Harris and his team in the admissions office have about 68,000 applications to shift through this year — a record high for the university.
Out of the 59,004 people who applied as first-year students, roughly 5,100 will be selected, Harris said. And of the 9,005 who applied as transfers, Harris said about 900 will be selected.
“That is really one of the great challenges we have — we would love the opportunity and ability to bring in more students as we know we have a lot of really well-qualified students that we’re unfortunately not able to accommodate every year,” he said. “But the campus also has limitations; community has limitations. So we have to keep that in mind as we go through the selection process.”
To check on their admissions status, students should first check their My Cal Poly portal, Harris said. The university will follow up with an email as well, he noted.
Students who receive notice that they were selected to enroll at Cal Poly must accept or decline their offer by May 1, according to the university.
