‘You could have killed somebody.’ Video shows 110-mph chase on SLO County highway

A California Highway Patrol officer arrested a person on suspicion of reckless driving Tuesday night, after the driver appeared to veer into the median to pass multiple times, and traveled at speeds over 100 miles per hour on Highway 101 through SLO County — and dashcam footage of the incident shared by the agency on social media showed what happened.

Around 7:53 p.m. on Tuesday, a driver appeared to pass a car in the center median at high speeds on northbound Highway 101, kicking up a cloud of dust in the process, according to the footage.

The CHP officer engaged in a brief chase, lights flashing, and reached speeds of at least 110 mph while pursuing the vehicle, the footage showed.

The driver appeared to veer into the median once more to pass to additional vehicles, sending up another plume of dirt before abruptly cutting over from the shoulder into the right-hand lane of the highway, the video showed.

The driver ultimately pulled over at the behest of the CHP vehicle.

“I know you were driving too, too dangerous and too fast and you, you could have killed somebody, right?” the CHP officer told the suspect, according to bodycam footage. “So I need you to turn around for me and put your hands behind your back.”

The officer placed the suspect in handcuffs around 8:16 p.m., the footage showed.

In the Facebook post, the Templeton CHP office said the driver “put countless lives at risk” by “driving with complete disregard for everyone on the roadway.”

“This kind of behavior is not tolerated,” the post said.
