A San Luis Obispo man allegedly stole items from an apartment before falling asleep in a garage and later getting into an altercation with police attempting to detain him.

Corey Andrew Medina, a 36-year-old homeless resident of SLO, was arrested on Sunday after police received a report of a man sleeping on a couch in a garage with items stolen from a home in the 1300 block of Stafford Street around 9:48 a.m., according to a news release from the Police Department.

The items were reported to have been taken from the apartment sometime during the night, and the resident also found evidence that Medina had eaten food and used the bathroom inside the apartment, according to police.

After the man woke up and left the area, police located him at a bus stop in the 500 block of California Boulevard, the release said. When they attempted to detain him, Medina allegedly fought officers and attempted to flee the scene.

Back-up officers arrived and assisted with placing Medina under arrest, the release said.

He was booked into the SLO County Jail on suspicion of a felony first degree burglary charge and a felony resisting arrest charge.
