SLO man arrested on suspicion of domestic battery after standoff with police
A San Luis Obispo man was arrested for alleged domestic violence after a short standoff with police on Wednesday.
At around 11 a.m., the San Luis Obispo Police Department received a call from a concerned citizen about a reported domestic violence incident at a residence in the 300 block of South Street, according to a news release from police.
On arrival, officers located a female victim, and investigating officers determined that a felony domestic battery had occurred, according to the release.
The suspect, Jeremy Alt, fled before the officers arrived, and a brief search of the nearby neighborhoods ensued, according to the release.
While a patrol officer was still in the area, Alt returned to the residence where the victim was located, according to the release. Additional officers then responded and negotiated with Alt for his surrender.
While the officers spoke with Alt, the victim was able to safely leave the residence, police said.
San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office K-9 deputies were requested to respond along with the CHP Helicopter Unit while officers continued to make announcements instructing Alt to surrender. He exited the residence at approximately 1:15 p.m., according to the release.
Alt was arrested without incident and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of felony domestic battery and an enhancement for committing a felony while out on bail for another crime, according to the release.
Alt was no longer booked into jail as of around 5 p.m., according to the county’s inmate lookup.
