‘Homemade incendiary devices’ found after hours-long standoff at SLO home
“Several homemade incendiary devices” were allegedly found after an attempt to serve a search warrant turned into an hours-long standoff at a San Luis Obispo home on Friday morning. According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, Benjamin Reynoso, 31, had a felony arrest warrant out for vandalism, violating a domestic violence restraining order and obstruction of justice, all of which stemmed from a prior incident the week before.
When members of the sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail arrived to the 4700 block of Los Osos Valley Road at 5 a.m., Reynoso reportedly refused to exit his residence despite numerous requests from law enforcement. He had also allegedly previously made threats to law enforcement and residents in the area.
After bargaining efforts with the sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Team, Reynoso still refused to leave and threatened Sheriff’s Office personnel who were on scene, the release said.
Eventually, several methods, including chemical agents, were used to get Reynoso out of the home, the release said, and after approximately two hours, Reynoso was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities at scene also used a specialized vehicle provided by the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT team, according to the release.
Upon the search of the home, detectives also found “several homemade incendiary devices,“ the release said.
