SLO County musician busted for spray-painting band’s name on businesses, police say
A Grover Beach musician who performed a concert in Atascadero on Thursday night was arrested after police say he was caught spray-painting his band’s name on local businesses.
At about 1:30 a.m. on Friday, an Atascadero Police Department officer spotted a man spray-painting the wall of a local business on Entrada Avenue.
When the officer tried to detain the suspect, he fled the area. Police then found Grover Beach resident Michael Josiah Brown, 20, hiding behind Malibu Brew on West Mall.
Officers took him in into custody without incident.
“During the investigation, officers learned Brown had reportedly performed earlier in the evening with a band at a nearby business,” the Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Officers later found fresh graffiti of the band’s name on two other businesses on Entrada Avenue.
“It is believed the graffiti had been done to promote Brown’s band,” the release said.
Brown was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail for alleged felony vandalism and misdemeanor resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer, police said.
He was not in custody at the jail as of Wednesday, according to the sheriff’s booking log.
Officers were still looking for Brown’s alleged accomplices.
