‘Heavy fire’ burns multiple outbuildings and a workshop in SLO County
A fire burned multiple outbuildings, a workshop and a trailer in Atascadero on Monday evening.
Around 6:40 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 7135 and 7145 Sycamore Road, Atascadero Fire and Emergency Services said in a news release.
Twenty personnel responded to the scene to find two outbuildings, a fence and a travel trailer “involved in heavy fire,” the release said. The fire was beginning to spread to a 1,500-square-foot workshop, too.
While attempting to extinguish the flames, several cylinders and cans created small explosions, which increased the volume and intensity of the fire and put firefighters on the defensive, the release said.
In total, it took six engines, three command vehicles and two investigators dispatched to the scene 20 minutes to put out the fire, the release said. Units remained committed to the scene for three hours for “extensive overhaul,” the release said.
No civilians or emergency personnel were injured during the fire, the cause of which is still under investigation, the release said.
