SWAT swarms Paso Robles apartment, residents evacuated during arrest

A Paso Robles apartment complex was evacuated Sunday as SWAT swarmed one of the units to arrest a man suspected of pointing a gun at another’s head.

According to a Paso Robles Police Department news release, officers responded to the 3300 block of Spring Street on Thursday at 9:55 p.m. for a report of a male pointing a handgun at another man’s head.

The man then reportedly told the other man he “was going to die.”

“The victim was able to escape from the suspect and was not injured,” the release said. “The suspect fled north from the area and was not located at that time.”

On Sunday, the Police Department identified the suspect as 31-year-old Irvin Hernandez.

Detectives obtained both an arrest and a search warrant for the apartment where he was staying, the release said.

According to the release, at approximately 3 p.m., members of the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT Team assisted in serving the search warrant at Hernandez’s apartment in the 3400 block of Spring Street.

“A portion of the apartment complex was evacuated for safety reasons, and Hernandez was taken into custody without incident,” the release said.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
