The San Luis Obispo County woman who died in a hit-and-run car crash in northwest Santa Maria late Saturday night has been identified.

Nipomo resident Maria Juarez Moreno, 46, was killed in the collision that occurred just before midnight on Saturday, Raquel Zick, a spokesperson from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office, told The Tribune.

The crash took place at the intersection of Bunny Avenue and Blosser Road in Santa Maria, according to Lt. Matthew Kline from the Santa Maria Police Department.

After being struck by the vehicle, Moreno received medical aid but was pronounced dead at the scene, Kline said.

The driver immediately fled after the crash, but during their investigation, officers were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle and contact the driver, Kline said.

Officers arrested a 30-year-old Santa Maria man, whose name has not been released. He was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on multiple felony charges.
