One person was arrested after they allegedly punched a police officer during an arrest attempt on Tuesday.

According to Cmdr. Steve Boyett, the Paso Robles Police Department received a call from a Paso Robles school, reporting a man suspected be under the influence when he arrived to pick up his child from school.

Police then contacted the parent, identified as Jimmy Bryant Bell, at his home, Boyett told The Tribune on Wednesday.

When officers attempted to detain Bell, he became violent and punched one officer in the face “a couple of times,” Boyett said.

Bell was allegedly fighting both that officer and another at the scene, but neither officer sustained serious injuries, Boyett said.

Ultimately, Bell was arrested and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of multiple charges, including misdemeanor obstructing a police officer, misdemeanor drug DUI, felony child endangerment and felony obstructing or resisting a police officer, according to Boyett.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Bell remained in custody at the jail with bail set at $100,000, according to the SLO County Sheriff’s Office Who’s in Custody website.
