The Arroyo Grande Police Department will be on patrol for drivers under the influence this weekend.

According to a news release from the Arroyo Grande Police Department, officers will patrol for suspected DUI drivers on Saturday between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Drivers caught driving impaired will face first-time DUI penalties of $13,500 and a suspended license, according to the release.

According to the release, impaired driving can be caused by consuming alcohol, medical and medicinal marijuana and some prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

“Impaired driving is preventable,” Sgt. Jeremy Burns said in the release. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taking drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
