SLO man arrested after attempted assault, providing drugs to minors, police say

A San Luis Obispo man was arrested after allegedly providing meth and cocaine to minors and attempting to sexually assault at least one underage victim.

Arturo Rodriguez Reyna, 21, was arrested Wednesday in the 1500 block of Diablo Drive in San Luis Obispo, according to a news release.

The arrest occurred after San Luis Obispo police were contacted by a hospital in August when an underage patient disclosed inappropriate contact with an adult male, the release said.

The allegations disclosed by the patient included that Reyna provided narcotic drugs to the minor and arranged to meet with the victim to commit lewd acts, police said.

Following those allegations, detectives discovered Reyna had allegedly contacted multiple girls under the age of 16, offering to sell or provide drugs to them, according to the release.

“Reyna actively encouraged these juveniles to use cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana, and on one occasion attempted to sexually assault one of the victims,” the release said. Police said they identified a second underage victim during the investigation.

Police enacted a search warrant Wednesday and discovered evidence related to the crimes, in addition to an unregistered and illegally modified AR-15-style rifle and other firearms, the release said. Two other residents were also detained on suspected narcotics and weapons charges.

Reyna was booked into the SLO County Jail on suspicion of a felony charge of arranging to meet a minor with intent to commit a lewd act, with the enhancement that the minor was at least four years younger than the suspect, and that the offense occurred on church grounds and within 1,000 feet of a school, police said.

Reyna faced additional felony charges, including providing narcotics to minors and possession or transportation of narcotics for sale, according to the release. Additional misdemeanor charges included sending explicit content to a minor, possession of meth and driving without a license.

Police had not identified additional victims as of Thursday, but encouraged members of the public with information related to the investigation to contact Det. Sofia Marques at smarques@slocity.org or 805-594-8060, or submit anonymous tips at 805-549-7867.
