Part of Highway 58 to close in SLO County for 4 days. Take these detours

Part of Highway 58 will close in San Luis Obispo County for four days, according to Caltrans.

The California Department of Transportation will shut a section of the highway to traffic for a railroad maintenance project, the state road agency said in a Wednesday, Nov. 19, news release.

Here’s what to know:

When and where will Highway 58 close?

The intersection of Highway 58 and El Camino Real in Santa Margarita will be closed from 6 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, through noon on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

Union Pacific Railroad will be completing a “full rehabilitation and maintenance project” at the railroad crossing during the multi-day closure, Caltrans said.

Which detours can I take to avoid roadwork?

While the intersection is shut down, drivers can exit Highway 58, detouring onto Encina Avenue and H Street in Santa Margarita before getting back onto the highway, according to Caltrans.

Message signs will alert travelers ahead of time about the closure, the state road agency said.

Directional signs will indicate where drivers should detour while the intersection is closed.
