SLO County high school principal arrested at school. Police say it was for DUI
The principal of Paso Robles High School was arrested and placed on administrative leave after allegedly driving to school under the influence of alcohol on Monday morning.
According to a news release from the Paso Robles Police Department, the department’s school resource officer was contacted by the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District about a possible staff member under the influence of alcohol on Monday morning.
The officer responded to the Paso Robles High School office and contacted principal Megan Fletcher, the release said. After an investigation, the officer determined that Fletcher had driven to the school while under the influence of alcohol.
Fletcher was placed under arrest for driving under the influence and transported to the Paso Robles Police Department for processing, according to the release.
Fletcher was released following the booking process. No one was injured, and no traffic collisions occurred as a result of the incident.
Fletcher was appointed as the school’s principal in August 2023. According to the district, assistant principal and athletic director Mike Susank will take over as interim principal.
The superintendent’s office shared news of Fletcher’s administrative leave with Paso Robles families Monday, but did not specify the reason at the time, according to screenshots of an email provided to The Tribune.
The email said that academic programs and student services would continue as normal.
District says principal was involved in previous traffic incident in school vehicle
According to a news release from the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District, Fletcher was previously involved in a traffic incident in a school district vehicle while traveling to a work-related conference out of town in June.
While the incident was reported to the California Highway Patrol, Fletcher was not charged with a hit-and-run — a rumor that had spread online after her administrative leave was announced, according to the release.
The district will not share further details on Fletcher’s arrest because it is a confidential personnel matter, according to the release.
“At no point was there any danger to students or staff,” the release read. “The campus remained safe, and school operations continued without interruption.”
