Woman arrested after SLO hotel discovered cache of drugs, ID cards in room
A tip from Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo led to the arrest of a woman on drug and identify theft charges after “multiple suspicious items” were discovered in her hotel room.
The multiple suspicious items included “a large quantity of methamphetamine, numerous checks, credit cards and identification cards believed to be stolen from multiple victims,” the SLO Police Department said in a news release.
Police identified a suspect and ultimately tracked her vehicle to a hotel in Arroyo Grande with the help of the Arroyo Grande Police Department.
The woman, Jeamy Melendez, 36, was arrested Oct. 22 for allegedly possessing methamphetamine and multiple ID cards that didn’t belong to her, police said, during a traffic stop after she left the Arroyo Grande hotel.
Police said she provided false information about her identity and presented multiple ID cards to officers during the arrest.
Police also found methamphetamine, liquid phencyclidine (PCP), cash and more ID cards in the suspect’s possession, the release said.
Melendez was booked into County Jail on suspicion of multiple felony charges, including identity theft, false impersonation, check fraud and possession and transportation of narcotics across noncontiguous counties for the purpose of sales, the release said. She was also booked on a misdemeanor charge of credit card theft.
Melendez remained in custody on Friday with bail set at $200,000.
