Thieves stole millions in jewelry from Central Coast shop. It’s not the only one
A Santa Barbara County jeweler was the victim of a multi-million-dollar jewelry heist — and investigators believe it could be connected to other similar burglaries across California.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a burglary at Baroness Jewelers on the 5700 block of Calle Real in Goleta on Aug. 16, the agency said in a news release Wednesday. Deputies believe the jewelry was stolen in the early morning hours of Aug 15.
Preliminary estimates indicated that “millions of dollars worth of jewelry was stolen,” the release said, including items belonging to customers. Detectives ask anyone who had jewelry at Baroness Jewelers for repair or resale to contact them.
Detectives are working to identify specific stolen items that could help connect suspects to the crime and help recover the stolen property.
No arrests have been made, but investigators believe the incident shares similarities with other recent jewelry store thefts in the state, the release said.
The case remains active and detectives are coordinating with other agencies who are investigating the similar cases.
The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who thinks they may be a victim of the burglary or has information related to the case to contact Det. Ellis with the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division at 805-681-4150.
