Police find drugs, cash in a secret safe in car headrest, arrest 2 Paso Robles residents
Two people were arrested after drugs found in a northern San Luis Obispo County storage unit led police to search a Paso Robles man’s car and home last week.
According to a Paso Robles Police Department news release, officers from its special enforcement team served a search warrant on a storage unit located near San Miguel on Thursday.
The warrant was obtained after two K9 police dogs from the Paso Robles and Atascadero departments “indicated to the presence of narcotic odor coming from a storage unit,” the release said.
During the search, police located 2.5 ounces of fentanyl and .22 handgun with the serial numbers removed, the release said.
Police identified the owner of the storage unit as Christopher Boerner, 44, of Paso Robles.
He was then stopped and arrested while driving his car in Paso Robles, the release said.
In the vehicle, officers found “a hidden safe in the seat headrest that contained fentanyl, cash and evidence of drug sales,” the release said.
Another search warrant was served at Boerner’s Paso Robles home, where officers found more fentanyl, cocaine, cash, drug paraphernalia and evidence of narcotic sales, according to the release.
In total, officers seized 0.67 pounds, or 311 grams, of suspected fentanyl and cocaine; $14,715 in cash; scales and drug paraphernalia, the release said.
Boerner was arrested on suspicion of felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, false compartment to conceal narcotics and conspiracy to distribute narcotics, according to the release.
During the searches, police also arrested Carrie Cassidy, 41, of Paso Robles, on suspicion of felony charges of possession of controlled substance for sale and child endangerment, the release said.
As of Tuesday evening, both remained in custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail, with Boerner’s bail set at $540,000 and Cassidy’s at $100,000, according to the Sheriff’s Office’s Who’s in Custody website.
