The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office arrested former substitute teacher Gregory Kornman for alleged possession of child porn on March 13, 2025.

A former Santa Maria substitute teacher was arrested on Thursday for alleged possession of child pornography, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said.

Nipomo resident Gregory Allen Kornman, 54, was sitting in his parked car late Thursday night on the side of the road near Los Berros Road and Highway 101 when deputies on routine patrol approached him at about 11 p.m., according to a news release.

Upon further investigation, they discovered he had child pornography on his phone, the release said.

He was arrested and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail, where he is being held without bail, according to jail records.

Kornman previously worked as a substitute teacher for the Santa Maria-Bonita School District for kindergarten through eighth grade.

“Kornman is no longer an active teacher and is currently not affiliated with the school district,” the release said.

The Sheriff’s Office served search warrants after the arrest and will continue to investigate the case.

Those with information about Kornman can contact the Sheriff’s Office’s detective division at 805-781-4500.
