Man shot, injured in late-night shootout with SLO County deputies, Sheriff’s Office says
A 37-year-old man was shot and injured during an apparent shootout with San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office deputies in Templeton late Wednesday night.
According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies responded to a report of shots heard in the area of Templeton High School on South Main Street around 10 p.m.
The agency said an unidentified male then fired multiple shots at the first unit to respond to the call.
Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tony Cipolla told The Tribune the shots hit a patrol vehicle.
According to the release, a second patrol unit that arrived soon after then engaged with the man — at which point, “the suspect was struck by gunfire.”
Deputies administered medical aid before the man was transported to a local hospital, the release said. He was in stable condition as of just before 1 a.m. Thursday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
None of the deputies involved in the incident was injured, according to the release.
The incident was under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit and there was no further danger to the public, the release said. It was not believed to be connected to the high school.
The Sheriff’s Office warned that during the investigation, the south end of Main Street in Templeton was expected to remain closed to traffic. The road closure was not expected to impact traffic in the vicinity of the high school on Thursday morning.
