A man suspected of driving while drunk crashed into a power pole near the San Luis Obispo train station early Saturday morning, police said.

“Last Saturday’s reminder that drinking and driving is unwise to say the least,” the San Luis Obispo Police Department wrote in a post on Facebook. “Designate a driver, use Uber/Lyft, walk, call your mom, do what you need to do to avoid putting yourself and others in danger.”

The crash occurred at 1:37 a.m. on Santa Barbara Avenue near the intersection with Osos and Upham streets, San Luis Obispo Police Department public information officer Christine Wallace told The Tribune on Monday.

Wallace did not have information on the age or city of residence of the man arrested, she said.

The power pole appeared damaged in images posted to Facebook by the Police Department. Wallace said PG&E crews came out to repair the pole, but she as unsure if power was lost in the area.

The driver was uninjured but arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, Wallace said.

“Really, don’t drink and drive,” she said. “You’re putting people in danger. It’s not that hard to find an Uber.”
