SLO County middle school went into lockdown after student said person near campus had gun
A middle school in Paso Robles went into lockdown on Thursday afternoon for what turned out to be a false alarm.
At around 12:50 p.m., a student at Lewis Flamson Junior High School told school staff they heard of a person near campus in possession of a firearm, the school said in a news release. There was also a report of a loud bang.
In response, the school went into lockdown and requested backup from the Paso Robles Police Department.
Within minutes, police were on the scene, secured the campus and conducted a thorough search of the area. Officers detained and searched a juvenile just off campus, the release said.
Meanwhile, school administrators interviewed several students on campus and determined that nobody had in fact seen a firearm.
With no injuries and no firearm or evidence of gunfire found in the police search, the situation was determined to be a false alarm, the release said.
Once all students were accounted for and the campus was searched and determined to be safe, the lockdown was lifted. School was dismissed at the regular time, the release said.
“The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District and Paso Robles Police Department takes any report of potential threats seriously,” the release said. “This response reflects our commitment to protecting our schools and ensuring the safety of everyone involved.”
