A pair of Paso Robles residents were arrested last week on suspicion of throwing a Molotov cocktail at a San Luis Obispo home, police said in a news release.

At 10:52 p.m. on Dec. 4, the San Luis Obispo Police Department received a call that 26-year-old Rachel Tomassi of Paso Robles was threatening to cause harm to a female acquaintance of the caller in SLO, the news release said.

Officers responded to the 1700 block of Corralitos Avenue, where the woman was staying.

Upon arrival, officers found a small fire burning in the middle of the street and saw a vehicle matching the description of Tomassi’s car fleeing the scene, the release said.

Officers extinguished the fire and then located a bottle filled with gasoline near the front door of the victim’s residence, the release said.

They determined the fire in the street was likely caused by a “makeshift wick” that fell out of the bottle as it was being thrown at the residence, the release said.

Officers located and stopped Tomassi’s car near the intersection of Osos and Buchon streets, where she was driving with passenger Kamakani Huihui, 19, also of Paso Robles.

Further investigation revealed Tomassi and Huihui were in possession of an unused “Molotov cocktail” bottle similar to the one found outside the victim’s house, the news release said.

The pair were arrested and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of four felonies: attempted arson, conspiracy, possession of explosives and possession of a destructive device.

Tomassi and Huihui are being held on bail set at $300,000 for both suspects. They were still in custody as of Thursday, over a week after the incident, the release said.
