DUI checkpoint coming to SLO County this weekend. Here’s where
The Arroyo Grande Police Department will set up a checkpoint to screen for drivers under the influence this weekend.
According to a news release from the department, the DUI checkpoint will be located at an undisclosed spot within the Arroyo Grande city limits on Friday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The checkpoint is intended to promote public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road and will be placed at a location that has seen incidents of DUI-related crashes, according to the release.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Police Chief Michael Martinez said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
The checkpoint will screen drivers under the influences of alcohol, prescription or over-the-counter drugs that interfere with driving and medicinal and recreational marijuana, according to the release.
Drivers charged with a DUI for the first time can face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties as well as a suspended license, according to the release.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the release.
