Pismo Beach police found loaded rifle, meth inside stolen car after man tried to flee

A loaded AR-10 rifle, meth and fireworks were found inside stolen a vehicle by Pismo Beach police officers after a man attempted to flee on Friday.

According to a Facebook post from the Pismo Beach Police Department, officers responded to the 800 block of North Oak Park Boulevard to check on the welfare of an individual who appeared to be “passed out” in a vehicle.

Pismo Beach Sgt. Anthony Hernandez said police arrived at the scene around 3:25 p.m. and discovered a firearm inside the vehicle. Police ordered the individual to exit the car.

According to Hernandez, the man briefly attempted to flee for what was “less than 30 seconds,” and then was safely taken into custody.

“It quickly evolved and ended just as quickly,” Hernandez said.

Hernandez confirmed that the vehicle, which was found to be stolen, contained an AR-10 rifle, along with 57 grams of meth, other drugs, paraphernalia and fireworks. Hernandez said the man had multiple felony warrants.

The man, Dalton Lee Cross, 33, was booked into County Jail on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen plates, outstanding felony warrants, and multiple drug and other weapons-related offenses, according to the Facebook post and the jail’s “Who’s in Custody” website.

He was still in custody as of Sunday afternoon, on $200,000 bail.
