Original story:

A San Luis Obispo man was arrested Friday after a dispute between a landlord and tenant ended with one of them brandishing a handgun, the Police Department said.

At 11:45 a.m., the police responded to a report of a dispute near the 600 block of Mitchell Drive near Broad Street, according to SLOPD Sgt. Bryan Treanor.

Police said that during the argument, a man pointed a handgun at the victim during the dispute, which led the victim to leave the property and call 911.

Police did not say whether the man with the gun was the tenant or the landlord.

The man was still at the scene when police arrived, Treanor said, though the victim was no longer present.

The man was taken into custody without incident and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of misdemeanor brandishing a firearm and felony assault with a deadly weapon, according to a news release.

Three firearms, including the one brandished, were seized from his residence, police said. The guns were legally registered.

No shots were fired and no one was injured during the dispute, Treanor said, and there were no problems in the past with the residence that the SLO Police Department is aware of.

“Due to the nature the call and firearm being used, yes, the streets were shut down on both sides due to preventing any vehicle or foot traffic being in there area until it was safe,” Treanor said.
