Up to 5 inches of rain predicted in SLO County this weekend, threatening holiday events

If you’re planning on attending one of the holiday parades in San Luis Obispo County this weekend, you might want to bring a raincoat.

The National Weather Service is predicting areas of the county will likely see anywhere from 1 to 5 inches of rainfall when the latest storm hits the region.

Most of that rain will fall on Saturday afternoon into the evening, according to the weather service, although raindrops could begin as early as Thursday evening and last through Monday morning.

The wet weather has already caused the Lighted Boat Parade in Morro Bay to be canceled.

“It will not be rescheduled to a later date,” the Friends of the Morro Bay Harbor Department wrote in an Instagram post Thursday. “We look forward to oooing and ahhhhing again in 2023!”

The Saturday Christmas in Cayucos open house — when local businesses in the small town stay open later to host visitors — is still on from 5 to 8 p.m. despite the rain. But outdoor activities, including the popular kids craft tent, have been canceled.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will move from the Santa House to On the Beach Bed & Breakfast at 181 N Ocean Ave. so people won’t have to stand in the rain while waiting in line.

And in Paso Robles, the Vine Street Christmas Victorian Showcase on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. is still on.

“We’re still a go rain or shine, and Scrooge will still be there with his umbrella and his galoshes,” said Norma Moye, chair of the Main Street Association.
