Update: Suspect involved in Paso Robles car chase that crashed in SLO identified

The suspect involved in a car chase that ended in a crash Tuesday has been identified by the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

Uriel Jimenez, a Nipomo resident, was identified Wednesday as the driver of an alleged stolen vehicle that led officers from Paso Robles to San Luis Obispo.

The car chase began around 2:45 p.m. near the Walmart on Niblick Road in Paso Robles after police officers observed a stolen white Acura Integra.

California Highway Patrol pursued Jimenez southbound on Highway 1, but called off the chase when Jimenez drove into San Luis Obispo, the San Luis Obispo Police Department said in a social media statement.

CHP deployed a helicopter to follow Jimenez when he drove onto Broad Street then Fiero Lane — a dead end street. When Jimenez turned around to leave, he crashed into a parked car and a police truck near the industrial park and attempted to flee the scene on foot.

Officers arrested Jimenez around 4:15 p.m.

He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, vehicle theft, felony resisting arrest, driving on a suspended license and evading police with reckless driving.

No injuries were reported in relation to this incident.
