Man accused of threatening Morro Bay motel employee with gun enters plea
A Ventura man accused of breaking into a Morro Bay motel and threatening an employee there with a gun has reached a plea agreement, according to the Morro Bay Police Department.
Emery Grohregin, 26, was arrested on Sept. 2, six days after he confronted the Rodeway Inn worker, police said in a Wednesday news release.
Grohregin entered a plea of no contest in San Luis Obispo Superior Court to charges of assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats, according to Morro Bay police Cmdr. Amy Watkins wrote in the release.
Morro Bay police responded Aug. 27 to a report of a break-in at a room at the inn at 2460 Main St., where Grohregin had been staying as a guest, according to the release.
A motel employee confronted Grohregin and an argument ensued before the “suspect retrieved a handgun from his waistband and pointed the firearm at the victim,” police said. “The suspect then fled on foot.”
Officers searched the area and found two firearms they believed belonged to Grohregin, according to the release.
“Witnesses in the area advised the suspect was picked up in an unknown vehicle that left the area prior to officer arrival,” police said.
Nearly a week later, Grohregin was located again at the Rodeway Inn, and “taken into custody after a brief standoff with officers,” according to the release.
Grohregin was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, being a felon in possession of a firearm and burglary, police siad.
Grohregin was being held at the San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail as of Wednesday, according to the county Sheriff’s website.
San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Eric Dobroth said Grohregin will be sentenced on Nov. 24.
