Nipomo residents arrested after search finds meth, sawed-off shotgun, SLO County sheriff says
A 35-year-old Nipomo man was arrested on suspicion of a number of drug-related charges, including possessing about $4,000 worth of methamphetamine, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.
A 37-year-old Nipomo woman was arrested on two felony warrants in connection with the case, according to a Sheriff’s Office release.
Kent Dean Lawson was stopped by Sheriff’s Office deputies in Nipomo on June 24 for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of narcotics for sale, the release said.
Lawson later posted bail on those and other charges related to that traffic stop, the Sheriff’s Office said.
After that arrest, Sheriff’s Office detectives began an investigation of Lawson and allegedly learned that he was again selling narcotics.
On Monday, detectives with the the Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics and Gang Task Force joined the county Probation Department to serve a search warrant at Lawson’s home in the 200 block of Trevino Drive in Nipomo, the release said.
At the same time, a Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit and Gang Task Force members stopped Lawson while he was driving in Arroyo Grande, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“A female companion of Lawson’s, Amanda Zeller, who was present, but associated with a separate vehicle, was detained as well,” the Sheriffs Office said in the release.
During searches of Lawson, Zeller, their vehicles and Lawson’s residence, the Sheriff’s Office said deputies found “approximately four ounces of suspected methamphetamine with a street value of $4,000; a small quantity of fentanyl; a sawed-off pump action shotgun; a starter pistol resembling a revolver; ammunition for the shotgun and items associated with drug sales.”
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Lawson was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of narcotics for sale, committing a felony offense while out on bail, possessing a controlled substance and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Zeller was arrested on suspicion of two local felony warrants, the agency said.
Both Lawson and Zeller were being held Wednesday evening at San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail each, jail records show.
