SLO County sheriff seeks couple suspected of passing stolen checks at Costco, bank

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in solving a two-month-old case of alleged identity theft that cost a Templeton woman thousands of dollars.

The agency said it has put an all-points-bulletin out across neighboring counties for a couple accused of passing the victim’s checks at banks and Costco stores.

In February, a woman in Templeton reported her purse stolen from her house, according to Sheriff’s Office news release sent Thursday. Cash, credit cards, and the victim’s checkbook was taken, the agency said.

On March 6, she reported that someone had used her checks at Costco stores in Fresno, Hanford, San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria, the Sheriff’s Office said. Checks had also been passed at a Bank of America in Fresno, the release said.

In all, the fraudulent checks totaled approximately $5,000, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Costco and the bank identified the suspects with surveillance photos that show one man and one woman who appear to be whie and approximately 50 to 70 years old, the release said.

It’s believed the two are associated with a white extended-cab pickup truck that appears to be a Ford F-150, possibly a 2004 year model or newer, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Once deputies got surveillance photos of the suspects from Costco, an all points bulletin was sent to Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Kings, Kern and Fresno counties, the agency said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 805-781-4550.
