Bakersfield thieves stole tequila, video equipment from Costco, SLO County sheriff says

Four people from Bakersfield, including two suspected gang members, allegedly stole about $3,000 worth of merchandise from the Costco store in San Luis Obispo on Friday morning, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit observed a speeding vehicle on northbound Highway 101 and stopped the car at Reservoir Canyon Road, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies discovered a large quantity of unopened, high-value tequila as well as video survellance equipment and socks in the car, which was occupied by two men and two women, the release said.

The vehicle was determined to have been at the store minutes earlier, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“At least two occupants in the car were determined to be known gang members from Kern County,” the release said.

One of the women, Cinthia Cervantes Rizo, 36, was arrested on a felony no-bail warrant.

The three other people suspected of felonies in the theft — Adam Joseph Velasquez, 36; David Diaz, 43, and Krystle Monique Gonzales, 34 — were released back into the community based on the state’s current $0 policy for nonviolent crimes, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Felony charges will be forwarded to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office by the Major Crimes Unit against all four of the suspects, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Cipolla.
