SLO man threatens police with knife, Molotov cocktail at apartment near Cal Poly, cops say
The San Luis Obispo Police Department is searching for a man who allegedly threatened tenants and police officers at an apartment complex near Cal Poly on Sunday night.
At around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a disturbance call at the apartment complex in the 1000 block of Foothill Boulevard, according to a police news release. Police said they were on the scene until the early morning Monday.
Upon arrival, officers heard a man yelling and banging on windows in the complex, the release said.
Several residents told police that the man — identified as 35-year-old San Luis Obispo resident Bradford William Jungers — was trying to break into their apartments and acting erratic, police said.
Jungers threatened police with a knife when they approached him, according to the release. He made motions to stab the police officers, but did not make contact, according to police officials.
Jungers then barricaded himself in an apartment, brandished an incendiary device known as a Molotov cocktail and threatened to harm officers with it, police said.
The San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT team was activated, but Jungers escaped through a back door prior to SWAT’s arrival, the release said.
Evidence of a Molotov cocktail was recovered, but Jungers is believed to still have the knife, according to police.
Police said there is a warrant for Junger’s arrest on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and possession of a destructive device.
Anyone with information regarding Jungers is asked to call the San Luis Obispo Police Department at 805-781-7312.
A resident at the SLO Student Living apartment complex confirmed that tenants were evacuated from midnight until 6 a.m. Monday.
The SLO Student Living manager was not immediately available for comment.
