Man beaten in SLO County parking lot and ‘left on the side of the road,’ police say

The Morro Bay Police Department is searching for three suspects who allegedly struck a man over the head and left him near a Morro Bay beach.

At about 1:55 a.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Main Street in Morro Bay for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to a Morro Bay Police Department news release.

Upon arrival, police located the victim, an adult man, the release said.

The man told police that three people drove him to a parking lot off Highway 1, south of Toro Creek Road.

Police said the man “got out of the car and was struck in the head numerous times by the suspects and left on the side of the road.” The release did not specify the type of weapon used.

The victim walked into town from the dirt parking lot and began knocking on doors for help, according to police.

He was transported to a local hospital with facial and head injuries, the release said.

Morro Bay police said officers located the crime scene and blocked off the area until 10 a.m. to process evidence.

The assailants, who were driving a dark-colored SUV, have not yet been identified, police said.

Anyone with information about this ongoing investigation is asked to call the Morro Bay Police Department at 805-772-6255 or San Luis Obispo County Crime Stoppers at 805-549-STOP.
