Black lab found with eyes, mouth duct-taped shut in Paso Robles

Update: Paso Robles dog owner taped dead chicken to black Lab’s face as discipline, authorities say

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Services department have launched an animal cruelty investigation after a dog was found taped up in rural Paso Robles.

According to San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Cipolla, a black Labrador retriever was found on Loma Lane around 9 p.m. Monday with its eyes and mouth duct-taped shut.

The dog had wandered into somebody’s yard, and the resident called the authorities, Cipolla said.

Cipolla said the person had removed the tape by the time deputies arrived.

The dog has since been turned over to Animal Control and a joint investigation into who could have taped the lab’s eyes and mouth shut has begun, Cipolla said.

He said authorities do not yet know how the dog ended up in that area.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 805-781-4550.
