School shooting message found in SLO High bathroom was TikTok-related prank, police said

The message in a San Luis Obispo High School bathroom regarding a possible school shooting was a TikTok-related prank by 14-year-old student at the school, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

The message read “Don’t come Dec. 6th, school shooting,” the department said in a news release sent Tuesday.

Police believe the teen wrote the message with the knowledge of one of their friends as part of a trend on the social media app TikTok, according to the release.

“Numerous TikTok videos have been circulating during the last several weeks urging teens to skip school during the week of Dec. 2-6, 2019,” police said.

Police said they notified the student’s parents about the serious nature of the writing. No one was arrested.

“All the students involved in this incident will be dealt with administratively through the school district,” the news release said. “Police and school officials feel confident there is no immediate threat towards San Luis Obispo High School students, staff or their families.”

The incident occurred just a week after a threat of school shooting was found on a bathroom mirror at Laguna Middle School. Police said that threat was also a TikTok-related prank.
