The very first Cambria Scarecrow 5K Classic will be run Oct. 8, with the course starting at Shamel Park, continuing to the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve, then returning to Shamel Park, a fundraiser sponsored by the Cambria Youth Athletic Association.
Previously, the CYAA had sponsored several Pier-to-Point run/walk fundraisers around San Simeon Cove, a gorgeous natural venue that attracted hundreds to the event.
But this year, according to CYAA organizer Norm Martin, the “breathtaking vistas and views” to be enjoyed at the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve will hopefully draw an abundance of enthusiastic runners and walkers as well.
The event is being held thanks to the cooperation of Friends of Fiscalini Ranch and the Scarecrow Festival folks. Martin said the 5K will begin around 8 a.m. Oct. 8 at Shamel, and the community is invited to get behind this fundraiser, which will help provide sports events for kids in Cambria who want to play soccer, basketball, T-Ball, Coach-Pitch and perhaps flag football.
