Three Coast Union basketball players — Jez Lawson, Sam MacKinnon and Auggie Johnson — have been named to the All-Coast Valley League first team. Sam’s twin brother, Jack MacKinnon, also Coast Union’s varsity football quarterback, made the All-CVL second team.

Roberto Cueva was given honorable mention status on the All-CVL team for 2015-16.

Meanwhile, head coach Tim May named Lawson as the Broncos’ Most Valuable Player, and Sam MacKinnon was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Year.

May’s team, with seven players, drove to a 10-0 record in the CVL, and ended up 15-11 overall, including winning a thrilling home CIF Division 5A playoff game against AGBU from Pasadena, 45-42.

The coach said he is “thrilled” to have his whole team back next season. Six of the players (including Nick Roper) will be seniors, and Riley Kennedy will be a junior.

The awards for Coast’s junior varsity: David Nolan, MVP; Forrest Johnson, Sportsmanship Award; and Darien Jewel, Most Improved.
