Long road trip leads to split for Coast Union girls soccer team
Coach Jack Mettier’s team played more than just soccer last week. In fact, the girls also played the role of road warriors, logging almost 197 miles driving to and from Midland High School on Wednesday, Feb. 10, and then putting on 244 miles to and from the San Joaquin Valley the next day for a game against McFarland High School.
The brutal schedule was the result of a rainout against McFarland earlier in the season; the Midland game had been previously scheduled, but the McFarland game was added to make up for the earlier inclement weather, and the two games wound up being on consecutive days.
Coast Union won the Midland game 3-2, with captain Paulina Torres scoring two goals and Gaby Cisneros adding the third. Cynthia Cadena had five saves in goal. The Lady Broncos lost the McFarland game 3-0.
The boys soccer team traveled with the girls on Thursday to McFarland, and were defeated by the same score, 3-0.
